Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert
For over twenty years Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert have been col- laborating on various projects as a screenwriter-director duo (although they were both officially credited as directors in the last two films only). Additionally, Englert has also worked as a cinematographer in the films they make together which received awards all over Europe. Their debut film, Happy Man, and their second film, Stranger, were both nominated for the European Film Award for Discovery of the Year. Happy Man also received the Special Artistic Achievement award at the 2000 Thessaloniki IFF. Their film 33 Scenes from Life won the Special Jury Prize at the 2008 Locarno IFF, whereas In the Name of received the Teddy Award at the 2013 Berlin IFF. At the same festival, in 2015, their film Body won the Silver Bear Award and so did Mug – in 2018. Their film Never Gonna Snow Again had its premiere at the 2020 Venice IFF, then went on to become Poland’s Oscar candidate.
