Mila is a very likeable girl. She’s thirty, she’s got a few hang-ups, a tendency to overanalyse everything and more tenderness towards others than herself. When her friend cancels a joint trip last minute, despite her doubts Mila goes to the pole dance camp on her own. From the very start she feels uncomfortable and out of place among the athletic dancers, skimpy clothes and platform heels. She observes the people around her with distance and irony – they all seem overconfident, too talented and too ‘exotic’. Yet it is there, outside her own bubble and away from her controlling boyfriend, that she slowly begins to reconnect with herself. During the crazy holidays, pole dancing training sessions, awkward situations, laughter and nighttime conversations Mila discovers that being brave does not always look like a major transformation. Sometimes it’s all about not apologising for your body, your emotions and the space you take up in the world for the first time in a long time.
The film is the director’s feature-length debut.
