For the fifth time, the Janusz Korczak Golden Lion Cubs Award will be presented at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia – five films for children and youth have been nominated. The award carries a cash prize of PLN 10,000 and is sponsored by Telewizja Polska. The winner will be chosen by public vote, and the award will be presented at the Young Gala on 25th September. The films in the running for the statuette are: The Shrew of Destiny by Marcin Wasilewski, Too Old for Fairy Tales 3 by Kristoffer Rus, The Boy at the Edge of the World by Grzegorz Wacławek and Marta Szymańska, Smartie and Me by Kacper Lisowski, and The Amazing Adventures of Lost Socks 3: Socks in Space! by Elżbieta Wąsik and Paweł Wendorff.
As Joanna Łapińska, Artistic Director of the PFF, says: “Five years marks the first small anniversary of this competition, which has held an important place in the Festival programme from the very beginning. Films for young audiences maintain a strong position on the map of contemporary Polish cinema. We see this in Gdynia, and we also see it in the 50 for 51 programme, where films for children and young people feature regularly.”
Screenings of the nominated films, often combined with meetings with the filmmakers, will take place at the Helios Cinema. Tickets for the screenings will go on sale in September.

In August, we will find out the programme for the Gdynia for Children festival section, which forms part of the nationwide Polish Cinema for Young Audiences project organised by the Polish Filmmakers Association.
