Opening film of the 51st PFF

On 21st September (Monday) at 7.00 p.m., the Opening Ceremony of the 51st Polish Film Festival will take place at the Musical Theatre in Gdynia, followed by a screening of the competition film Wild, Wild East, directed by Jan Holoubek. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the filmmakers.

Jan Holoubek, the film’s director, comments: It’s brilliant news that ‘ Wild, Wild East’ will be the opening film of the 51st Polish Film Festival. This is a special moment for any festival, and for us it’s a great honour. ‘Wild, Wild East’ is the result of an enormous effort, first by the production team and then by the entire crew. The fact that it has been chosen as the opening film symbolically crowns our joint, long-standing efforts.

By invitations only. Accredited guests are asked to book their seats themselves in the system.

About the film:

Main Competition of the 51st PFF: Wild, Wild East, directed by: Jan Holoubek, 105 minutes
It is the harsh winter of 1943 and a mysterious official from Berlin, Wolff, arrives in the sleepy town of Małe Zalesie in eastern Poland. He guards the reasons for his visit with utmost secrecy, but his mere presence quickly shatters the town’s peace. An atmosphere of distrust thickens, and danger lurks at every corner. Everyone has their secrets, and rumours of missing gold cause the line between truth and lies to gradually blur. A story of people entangled in dramatic choices, where the stakes are life itself, and every decision carries real onsequences.
